Licence Agreement
Version 1.0 · 21 September 2026
This agreement is between you and the developer of MacSonar, the seller shown when you buy or download it ("we", "us"). By installing or using MacSonar you agree to it. If you do not agree, do not install the app; if you have already paid, ask for a refund.
1. What you may do
A licence is granted to you personally, is not exclusive, and cannot be transferred. One licence covers the number of Macs stated on the licence itself (one unless it says otherwise), provided you are the primary user of each. That limit is enforced by activation — see section 9.
You may use MacSonar for any purpose, personal or commercial. There is no separate business licence.
2. The trial
MacSonar can be used without a licence to measure, search and compare. Bulk removal is unlocked for a trial period stated in the app. When the trial ends, measuring continues to work and bulk removal stops. Nothing is deleted, disabled or held hostage when a trial expires.
3. What you may not do
You may not share, publish or resell your licence file. It carries your email address, and anyone who receives it can read it — this is the only mechanism preventing casual sharing, and we would rather explain it than obfuscate it.
You may not remove or alter the licensing mechanism, or redistribute the app as your own. Nothing here restricts anything you are permitted to do by law that cannot be contracted away, including any right to study the program's interoperability that applies where you live.
4. Updates
The purchase is one-time and the licence does not expire. Updates within the major version you bought are included, with no update window and no subscription. A future major version may be a separate purchase; if it is, the version you bought keeps working.
5. Refunds
Purchases are handled by our merchant of record, who is the seller of record for tax purposes and who administers refunds under their own policy and under any consumer protection law that applies where you bought it. Contact us first if something is wrong — we would rather fix it.
6. What MacSonar does to your files
MacSonar measures storage, and it removes things only when you select them and confirm. Removal moves items to the Trash, where you can put them back. The one exception is emptying the Trash, which the app will only do after a separate confirmation that says so.
You are responsible for your own backups. A tool that deletes files is not a substitute for one, and no software should be trusted with the only copy of anything. Use Time Machine or an equivalent before a large removal.
7. No warranty
MacSonar is provided "as is". We do not warrant that it will be error-free, that its measurements will be exact, or that it will suit a particular purpose. Disk measurement depends on what macOS permits the app to read, and the app reports what it could not read rather than guessing.
To the extent the law where you live gives you rights that cannot be excluded — which in many countries it does — nothing in this section takes them away.
8. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability arising from MacSonar is limited to the amount you paid for it.
We are not liable for lost data, lost profits, or consequential or incidental loss. This is the ordinary allocation of risk for software at this price, and it is why section 6 asks you to keep backups.
Where the law does not permit these limits — for consumers in some jurisdictions, and for death, personal injury, fraud or gross negligence anywhere — they do not apply.
9. Activation
A licence covers the number of Macs stated on it, and that number is checked rather than trusted: activating sends your licence key and a name for this Mac to our merchant of record, who counts activations against what you bought. If you run out, deactivate a Mac you no longer use — the app has a button for it — or get in touch.
MacSonar re-checks once a day, and keeps working for thirty days without an answer, so an outage or a flight does not cost you the software you paid for.
10. Privacy
Apart from that licence check, MacSonar does not phone home, collect analytics, or transmit anything about you or your files. The privacy statement describes exactly what the check sends and what is stored on your Mac.
11. Ending this agreement
You may stop using MacSonar at any time; delete the app and, if you want, the folder described in the privacy statement. We may end this agreement if you breach section 3, in which case you must stop using the app — but we cannot and do not reach into your Mac to do it.
12. Governing law
This agreement is governed by the law of India, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory law of the country where you live.
